The Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness Designer Joins Bethesda’s Indiana Jones Game

Lead designer for The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay and The Darkness, Jens Andersson, has announced his signing by MachineGames to work on the new Indiana Jones game.

Andersson, a veteran of Starbreeze Studios, will serve as design director on the new project, one of Bethesda’s most anticipated.

The Indiana Jones game was announced last year as a collaboration with LucasFilm Games, and will have an “original story” that will not be connected to that of the upcoming film, Indiana Jones and the Call of Fate (of which, by the way, a spectacular trailer was published last night).

The creative said that “I am very excited about what we are building, and the way in which we can do it, with one of the most iconic in history.”

Interestingly, Andersson was hired by LucasArts in 2009 as lead designer for the Indiana Jones game they were preparing at the time, a project that was ultimately canceled “before I got there.”

“Now I get to do what I originally hoped to do, but this time I’m doing it with some of my oldest and best friends. Joining MachineGames is like coming home, amazing people I worked with on Riddick and Darkness, but also hang out with new ones, whose talent amazes me on a daily basis”.

Also working with Andersson are Axel Torvenius, art director of the latest Wolfenstein, and Jerk Gustafsson, executive producer of MachineGames.

Todd Howard stated earlier this week that the new game is “a love letter” (*wink* *wink*) to the character created by George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, and that “it’s a mixed bag. It’s not one thing, It intentionally does a lot of things that we wanted to do in a game, so it’s kind of unique.”
