What is the 1000th Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet? Answered

When the Pokémon video game series began, there were only 151 Pokémon in the red and blue versions of the Pokédex. It was a strong number, but since then, each new generation has added more and more Pokémon to the total, getting closer and closer to this milestone at number 1000. With the Gen 9 Scarlet and Violet versions, we finally got there. The total number of Pokémon is now 1008, but you might be wondering which one was honored to be #1000. The answer is a correspondingly brilliant creature.

The 1000th Pokémon is…Goldengo

At number 1000 in the global Pokédex is Goldengo, the “coin Pokémon”. This is a double Ghost/Steel type which, as the nickname suggests, is a living pile of coins. It is number 392 in the Pokédex of the Paldea region, making it a common number 1000, right after its pre-evolutionary Gimmigul at number 999. This difference actually affects the method by which you can get your own Gholdengo.

How to get Goldengo in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Before you can get Goldengo, you need to catch Gimmigul. In the Scarlet and Violet versions, you can find his chest in various towers in Paldea. Each time you fight or catch one of them, you will receive Gimmigul Coins. You can also get coins by interacting with various rogue gimmiguls in their rogue form throughout the region. You can’t catch them, but you can get a coin every time you spot them. Step one is to collect 999 Gimmigul Coins. This is an awful lot, but fortunately they can be grown.

Once you have collected 999 coins, level up your Gimmigul and it will transform into a Gholdengo. You can probably see the pattern here already: 999 coins matches Gimmigul’s Pokédex place, and another increase makes Gholdengo a perfect choice for #1000.
